Yuki's sleuthing skills to solve her Samhain problems are very detective-like. It would be best to read She Smells the Dead (1st Spirit Guide Novel) to best understand Spirit Storm, including the characters and the basic plot itself. I think it is very interesting how there is fantasy, adventure, and romance all combined in one novel. It is quite original how there is a significant, yet small part in werewolves and spirits. Though the book is based on werewolves and spirits, E. J. Stevens also incorporated some high school adventures. There is also the adventure of rescuing Sam, and Cal and Yuki's romance. If you like these combinations of genres, I suggest you read this book. I rate Spirit Storm a 5 out of 5."

I think YA needs more characters like him to show teen girls about what being in a good relationship can be like. In addition, I also really liked Yuki. She is spunky, funny, and sensitive. Delving into established mythology, Stevens brings all manner of mythical creatures out of the shadows for a glimpse of the world behind the curtain. Her strategy is not to explore the legends deeply, but to provide hints of them; the result is a beguiling and provocative volume that creates more curiosity and tension than would facing the horror full on. Like From the Shadows, Stevens’ previous collection of shaded paranormal poetry, this collection is divided into sections. Stevens takes us on a tour of the darker side of the elements (e.g., “Earth & Below;” “Fire & War”) and each of the sections presents short vignettes, such as the cautionary tale of a would-be unfaithful husband in “Woman in White,” or brief psychological sketches, as in “Loup Garou.” In fact, “Loup Garou” is one of the shortest in the collection at eight-lines; but it also one of the most thrilling with its cold revelation of a once-human’s nature. I have a deep appreciation for poetry. I'm constantly marvelling at how some poets are able to portay such such vivid imagery and evoke some strong emotions with a few well-written stanzas. E.J. Stevens shows us that she has such talent in Shadows of Myth and Legend.

Shadows of Myth and Legend offers a wide variety of ghoulish and bittersweet tales of lost loves, lust, and revenge that are told in a smoothly dark and melodious manner. The collection of poems are split into four chapters and each one represents the elements of air, fire, earth and water. Within each chapter Stevens' poems flow gracefully and bring about that richness from old folk lore that tends to be forgotten in our modern times. The subjects from each of the poems range from the usually popular paranormal creatures (vampires, werewolves, faeries, etc.) to the lesser known like selkies, brownies, hippocamps and the extremely frightening Wendigo.

Stevens' poems alternately chilled me and piqued my curiosity because of the different mythological creatures and again, I have to mention how potent the imagery is in this work of hers; there is also the tone for each poem that occasionally switches from ominous and sorrowful to an almost humorous inflection--and the ease that Stevens shows in doing this is impressive...I really enjoyed E.J.
